Protecting your rights in difficult times.
Joanna K. Smith began practicing law in 2001 and is licensed in the State of Colorado. She graduated in 1988 from Adams State University, with a Bachelor’s of Science and a double major in Psychology and Business Management. She earned her juris doctorate from the University of Denver School of Law in 2001.
Prior to her career in law, Ms. Smith worked for fourteen years for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in Denver, Colorado. She was a compliance manager and traveled throughout the United States, working with other divisions of Lockheed Martin and its subcontractors as a recognized specialist in compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulations.
After graduating law school and passing the bar in 2001, Ms. Smith and her husband moved from Denver to Canon City, Colorado, to enjoy the smaller community environment and the beautiful landscape of Fremont County. Ms. Smith opened her own practice in 2003, specializing in family law and estate planning.
Ms. Smith also practices in the area of child protection, representing either parents who have had their children removed from their care or the children removed from their parents. Although this is a very difficult field, this area of law can be very rewarding whether families are reunified successfully or in serious cases parental rights are terminated.
Ms. Smith and her husband reside in Fremont County and she focuses her practice in Fremont, Park, Custer, and Chaffee counties. She enjoys the outdoors in her limited spare time and is a passionate dog and equine owner.
